Student Representative Selection Committee Update

Student Government (SG) Senator Elitsa Nacheva reported on the progress of the Student Representative Selection Committee (SRSC). Nacheva and the SG Vice President Marina Ceprazova organized a meeting to introduce the newly elected student representatives to their duties and responsibilities.
The new student representatives were announced on September 30 by the SRSC.

Club Recognition

The SG also recognized the following clubs: the AUBG International, Basketball Club Griffins, the AUBG Debate Club, the Investment Club, the Rock Jamming Club, the AUBG Art Club, the People to People International AUBG Chapter, AIESEC AUBG, and the European Youth Movement AUBG Chapter.

Work and Travel (WAT) program presentation

Ceprazova reported that her WAT task force created a spreadsheet that compares prices and the variety of services WAT companies in Blagoevgrad offer. In the near future, the SG together with the Resident Assistants (RAs) will organize a special seminar on WAT opportunities.

Student representative report

Edlira Dashi, the student representative to the Board of Trustees (BoT), went through a part of the report she is going to present during the October 24 meeting of the BoT. Dashi highlighted the achievements of some AUBG graduates who continued their studies at top graduate schools.
Dashi also informed the SG that the Business Department has been using Skype to interview potential candidates for faculty positions for the coming year. The Business Department is optimistic about the improvement of course offerings, she added.

Skaptopara 3 pricing

The Vice President for Finance and Administration Alexander Alexandrov discussed the two pricing options for the Skaptopara 3 Residence Hall. The first one is to maintain the predicted price increase of Skaptoparas 1 and 2, while charging a higher fee for Skaptopara 3. The other one is to have one single housing fee which would be higher than the current one, to compensate for the higher living standards of Skaptopara 3.
Alexandrov said he believes those who receive additional benefits should be expected to pay more. He added he does not want Skaptopara 3 occupied by seniors only, or by the students with full scholarships, referring to the housing selection process which is also under discussion. Alexandrov said the fee will be kept as low as possible, even below the level needed to break even.
