Our lazy representative

I am not sure how to describe the feeling that overwhelms me every time AUBG elections are coming up. Whether it is senator, SG president, Student Representative, MoreHonors or Miss AUBG elections (or defacto polls, for that matter), something in the idea of "I get to decide" gets me more than excited. So, like a responsible and involved student that I am, I participate and click on someone’s name every time, and keep my fingers crossed.

This year the AUBG community proved once again that elections are all about popularity, and what a person actually says or does matters much less. This is the case of our newly elected Student Representative to the Board of Trustees, Ivan Angelov. Don’t get me wrong, the guy is charismatic, energetic and full of life, and he never refrains from speaking his mind. It is the AUBG community that I fail to understand.

One. More Honors. Ivan Angelov won the award for "Lazy of the year." For the life of me, I cannot comprehend why out of all the slobs, alcoholics, pot smokers and video game addicts, he gets the award. In my opinion, he is none of the above. He was voted for lazy because he was the most popular of the five nominees. Which leads me to believe that we don’t vote for the most qualified but for the one we know best.

Two. Student Representative elections. Angelov nearly missed winning by five votes. He is going to fly to the United States next year to explain to the Board of Trustees what our concerns are. Neither in the debates nor in any other public appearance or statement Angelov made did he give one good reason for him wanting to do it. A common explanation he gave was that "anyone can write three reports, why not me?" And it seems to have worked, as the AUBG community agreed that he is that "anyone."

The oxymoron of it all is that the one recognized by the community as being the laziest gets to represent us in front of the people who decide how this institution will work in the future. Does laziness represent us as a community, or is it that neither More Honors awards nor Student Representative positions mean anything but a fun "clicking game" on a website, be it a More-Honors or SG one?

Interesting

I cannot really know where the inspiration for this came from, yet I have my doubts. First option: You decided to criticize the choosing of Ivan Angelov because you were really annoyed by AUBG choosing someone who won a More-Honors award, because the seriousness of More-Honors awards is very high, or at least so it is positioned in your mind. Second option: Your girlfriend lost to this guy. Maybe it's the second one, or maybe it's the second one. Cheers, Anonymous

Interesting

I worked with this guy last summer. He is one lazy person, who shoplifted the local supermarket on daily basis. Always high or drunk while at work, did some stupid things while driving around in company vehicle. The point is, if this person have no respect for himself, to the others while doing simple tasks, respect the policies of a company. I highly doubt it that he has respect for the students, their needs, their concerns, their ideas. Well, it just proves the point that AUBG is actually AUFG (American University of Fashion and Gay Voices) And now this person is representative to the BoT.
