The Arts, Languages and Literature department added Music in Latin American Culture to its course offering. The class, taught by Professor Anna-Maria Dean, will be available starting from Fall 2009 semester.

"FAR 310 considers the richness and enormous variety of music of Latin America in historical and cultural context," said Dean. Musical performances, multimedia presentations and movies will illustrate "traditional genres, both sacred and secular, ensembles, instruments [and] the importance of ‘fiesta' in Latin America as it relates to music and dance," she added.

The three credit course will be a part of the Fine Arts minor and will count towards Aesthetic Expression for the General Education requirements.

"Students who do Latino dances and many other students expressed the interest in such course," said Dean.

Regina Sadykova, Latin American Dance Club President, said she thinks such a class would be appealing. "I totally support the idea of opening this new course because it gives students more opportunities to get to know different cultures. Latin American culture is exotic and at the same time full of passion and desire."

Student Violeta Nikolova said that although she was not an enthusiast of Latino music, some students are since "there is a whole Latin [American Dance] Club [at] AUBG." "I would be happier if there were an Irish culture course. I would sign up immediately. But, as a whole, the more art courses there are, the better."
