Opinion Piece
May 1, 2010

I am not sure how to describe the feeling that overwhelms me every time AUBG elections are coming up. Whether it is senator, SG president, Student Representative, MoreHonors or Miss AUBG elections (or defacto polls, for that matter), something in the idea of "I get to decide" gets me more than excited. So, like a responsible and involved student that I am, I participate and click on someone’s name every time, and keep my fingers crossed.

Musical review
April 20, 2010

When a person gets to see his friends in a university production, expectations tend to diminish and people tend to become much more appreciative towards it. This is not such kind of a review. I have been bashing movies for defacto for a while, writing about their good points and weaknesses, and I will not treat Hairspray otherwise. I will be as objective as possible, since I paid money to view this almost-successful production.
Burton delivers, but Alice doesn't
March 21, 2010

It is always fun to see a Tim Burton movie. He is one of those fascinating directors who are able to create a spectacle out of the most mundane, unoriginal situations. Furthermore, there is a method to his madness and he tries to compile similar casts for most of the movies he produces.
AUBG seems to forget that it needs to provide its students with majors, rather than minors
March 21, 2010

Rumors have been circulating around campus for a while about the introduction of at least two new minors at AUBG - Religion and Philosophy, and the much debated Finance minor, heavily advertised by Student Government President Alexandru Panici. While on the surface that seems very positive, as initiatives broaden our academic prospects by offering us all kinds of new perspectives to pursue, there is still room for plenty of discussion.
Nine – sexy, but clumsy
March 7, 2010

This movie has every possible ingredient of an acclaimed cinematographic masterpiece: director Rob Marshall, the mastermind behind critically acclaimed Memoirs of a Geisha and Chicago; an ensemble of remarkable actors; and its script is a remake of a Federico Felinni classic. So what went wrong?

Worth the wait. Cameron does not disappoint.

There have been many epics in the movie industry - starting with Gone with the Wind and ending with Emmerich's 2012 - but Avatar pretty much obliterates everything that has been done before.
A movie about immortals that seems to last forever
December 1, 2009

Sometimes there are no words to express the sadness. Sometimes there is no time to spend watching a movie as bad as New Moon. Kudos to me for not actually leaving the theatre 30 minutes after the movie started, but then again, it had some good moments, albeit a few.
“I understand that this decision was harsh, but it was taken after a discussion" - Ivanov
November 17, 2009

On November 5, AUBG's Student Conduct Council (SCC) decided to impose the following sanctions on ELI student Eni Kaci. He is (1) "no longer allowed to live on AUBG campus;" (2) "no longer allowed to continue enrollment in ELI;" and (3) he "will not be allowed to return to AUBG in the future to live on campus or enroll in any university programs."
Two and a half hours of incredibly entertaining clichés
November 16, 2009

You enter the theatre, the lights go out, and you go on the biggest roller-coaster ride of your life. It's not a movie, it's a thrilling experience that goes beyond anything ever produced, shot and directed before.
Sad and convincing two hours from the life of a music genius
November 3, 2009

It is the most talked about film in the recent history which made millions of people worldwide buy tickets long in advance. It is predicted to make more money in worldwide box office distribution than Titanic. Michael Jackson's This is It brought huge amounts of people into cinemas.

District 9 movie review
October 13, 2009

When the Slumdog Millionaire came out it captivated the entire world, even though it lacked the use of the latest post-production technologies. Similarly, you may consider District 9 to be the science fiction (SF) version of Slumdog: even though it looks and feels like a South African second-rate movie, it is so much more than that.
While Panici swims in the ocean of optimism, the fish are dying
October 12, 2009

As the current student representative to the Board of Trustees (BoT), Edlira Dashi is in charge of writing a report encompassing student achievements and complaints since the beginning of this semester. Also, as a new addition to the report, SG President Alexandru Panici has addressed a letter to the Board, in which he comments on the current situation of the university.
New times call for desperate measures
October 2, 2009

It is either a major hit, or a drop-in-the-gutter die-slowly-and-painfully miss, with a remake of a classic. Arguably, there is nothing in between. That is, until you see this movie. The Taking of Pelham 123 is one of the fastest paced action thrillers released in recent years, but is it better than the original? Maybe. Maybe not.

The place I will never forget? Maybe
February 20, 2009

"Always trust your friends," says some ill-fated Romanian proverb. It goes on to say "always trust your parents," as well. Both of whom, prior to my departure for Norway, urged me not to take any clothes that are not warm, bulky and generally make me look like a big shipyard container.
